Wider than me
The exhibition 'Wider than me' brings together four positions by artists from Mulhouse, Oaxaca and New York who have travelled the world and the Basel region with the Atelier Mondial scholarship programme. All four artists deal in very different ways with the question of how we can transcend our current circumstances, how we can transcend the supposed limitations of our time and how art can describe and comment on this. How can we gain a new relationship to nature, of which we have always (been) a part, how can we preserve it? How can we transform the categories of gender, sexuality and ethnicity into something greater that connects us? Which paths lead out of the expectations of traditional family ties and where can the finite touch the infinite?

In 2014, Artstübli, originally a platform for urban art and culture, moved into the 125 square metre space in the round building of the Markthalle Basel. Since 2022, events with culinary and performative art installations have been presented, making them no longer exclusive to the context of urban art. This transformation is intended to contribute to the purposeful networking of participating artists, art spaces, institutions and research projects.
Atelier Mondial is an international grant programme that offers artists from various disciplines from the Basel region, Solothurn, the region of South Baden and the region of Alsace the opportunity to practise abroad for several months in one of the programme’s approximately 11 partner countries. In return, and in the spirit of a classic exchange, our partner organisations around the world offer grants for a stay in the Basel region, where Atelier Mondial operates seven studios.
