ARCHITECTURE TOUR WITH JORGE MARINHO. Warteck

The premise of this walking tour series is the idea that every act of eating connects us to a network of distant places. What ends up on our plate is the result of a complex food infrastructure that shapes our cities and landscapes.

Between production, storage, distribution and, finally, consumption lies a spatial infrastructure that is often overlooked. Like many other infrastructures, some places lose their original political, economic and social significance over time. This creates new possibilities for repurposing and further development. Spaces once defined by production machinery remain behind and can be reactivated through new uses.

This project examines three buildings as examples of different phases of this process:

- Werkraum Warteck PP as a production site

- Kunsthaus Baselland as a storage site

- Markthalle as a distribution site

Using these examples, the project shows how former food infrastructures can be repurposed and how industrial spaces become sites of new cultural and public significance.

Basel-based architect Jorge Marinho, trained in Lisbon and Mendrisio, moves between different formats within architecture. In 2025 he joined Bauhaus-LAB in Dessau, where he contributed to the scenography of After Modern Brightness, having previously worked as a scenography assistant at Theater Basel.
