Tour Suggestion by Marlene Wenger

We asked leading figures from the art world which venues they plan to visit during Kunsttage Basel. This first tour recommendation in our series comes from Marlene Wenger, Head of program at HEK.

My suggested Kunsttage tour begins at midday on Saturday at the HEK, with the Studio Lemercier exhibition entitled ‘Thresholds’, in which visitors’ perceptions are put to the test through impressive technical installations. After a refreshing drink at Café ela, we’ll head on to the Tinguely Museum for the ‘Labouring Bodies’ exhibition. This group exhibition explores how technologies have transformed our relationship with our bodies from a feminist perspective, focusing in particular on the working, childbearing and resistant body. To cool off, take a dip in the Rhine or swim straight to the Wettsteinbrücke, where you can catch the tram to the Gewerbeschule and from there to the see you next tuesday exhibition space. At 3 pm, visitors can look forward to a fashion performance by Jacqueline Loekito. Entitled ‘Gender in Suspension’, the gender-fluid collection by the JL label will be presented as part of Nici Jost’s exhibition. Finally, I’d recommend popping into the von Bartha Gallery to round off the afternoon with Francisco Sierra’s exhibition and be inspired by the subtle humour of his surrealistically absurd works.
