Tour suggestion by Tobias Brenk
We asked a number of local personalities to name the venues and events they will be visiting during the Kunsttage Basel. The first tour suggestion comes from Kaserne Basel's artistic director, Tobias Brenk.
I'm looking forward to the many interactive formats that offer different perspectives on the art world – such as the HYBRID PROJECT SPACE workshops or the "unofficial hiking company" of the Unofficial Hiking Agency, which will satisfy your hunger for knowledge with talks and audio guides from the Keck Kiosk to the Kunstmuseum Basel.
During the day on Friday, I'll be making a detour to visit our friends from Ausstellungsraum Klingental. From 5 pm, I'll be watching the performances at the opening of the diploma exhibition from the "Art Gender Nature" institute, which has the great title "You can break a rock with an egg". I'm also really looking forward to Harald Beharie's performance on Friday evening at 9pm at the Roxy Birsfelden, which is great to combine with a visit to City SALTS.
On Saturday, I'll be popping into von Bartha on Kannenfeldplatz for the first time in a long time – I have a certain nostalgia for the place, as my first flat in Basel was above the gallery. Later, I want to be out and about at Super Saturday – and in addition to the performance "Salle noire" by Davide-Christelle Sanvee, I also want to see the "Selfie Concert" by Ivo Dimchev in the foyer of the new Kunstmuseum building. Late in the evening, I'm sure I'll be at the closing party in the Kaserne.
However, if friends with children were to visit me unexpectedly for the Kunsttage Basel, we would definitely end up at the Museum Tinguely with the exhibition by Mika Rottenberg and the "Plastic Matters" workshop, later we would be at Durchgang and the Hotel Regina collective to sort screws and then we would take the kids to Miet Warlop's play at Neue Theater Dornach in the early evening, where we would marvel at the artist's absurdly colourful figures, living objects and spectacles of form and colour on stage. By the way: if you're travelling with guests – the Velospot bikes are very worthwhile for gallery hopping with guests from outside! Thanks to the collaboration, there is a discount on your journey during the Kunsttage Basel with the code KUNSTBASEL.
