Tour Suggestion by Raphael Suter

We asked various personalities from the region which places they plan to visit during Kunsttage Basel. The third tour suggestion comes from Raphael Suter, Director of the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger | KBH.G.
I’ll begin my tour at Kunsthalle Basel, where I’ll see Bagus Pandega’s exhibition ‘Sumber Alam’, opening especially for Kunsttage Basel. The new director, Mohamed Almusibli, has delivered a consistently impressive programme so far. Just a few steps away, Gallery Hauser & Wirth is showing works by French Symbolist Eugène Carrière under the title ‘Sculpter la lumière’, which I’m particularly excited about. A visit to Kunstmuseum Basel is always worthwhile too—either to see the exhibition by 2025 Manor Art Prize winner Cassidy Toner, or to admire Elena Filipovic’s new curatorial hangings.
Then, I’ll cross the Rhine to Kleinbasel, first stopping at Joys to enjoy Timo Roniger’s cooking. Host Anina Michel once ran a gallery herself, and her affinity for art is palpable in this cosy, charming spot.
Refuelled, I’ll stroll around the corner to Dominik Müller’s Galerie Mueller. Together with Stefan von Bartha and Carlo Knöll, he’s injected new energy into Basel’s gallery scene, and the Basel Social Club he co-founded has become the place to be during Art Basel. His gallery’s exhibitions attract both collectors and museum professionals.
Finally, in Kleinbasel, Museum Tinguely is always a must. The ‘Kunst-Geisterbahn’ by Rebecca Moss and Augustin Rebetez invites one last ride before being dismantled post-Kunsttage. But above all, Julian Charrière’s exhibition ‘Midnight Zone’ warrants another visit. The blend of film, photography, sculptures, and installations culminates in a brilliant show by this likeable artist, who’s become a shooting star in the scene.
