Tour suggestion by Urs Blindenbacher

We asked several prominent figures in the region which venues they plan to visit during Kunsttage Basel. The first tour suggestion comes from Urs Blindenbach, artistic director and founder of the Offbeat Jazz Festival Basel.
My Basel Art Days tour is a cycling adventure, starting in Kleinbasel at the fascinating Franck Areal. I love being surprised by this project time and again, as it evolves into a hub for culture, dance, circular economy, and living. During the Art Days, Visarte Basel, in collaboration with ensemble5, will transform the garage into a three-day exhibition and discussion space.
Next stop is Basel’s Rhine harbour, where I’ll revisit the Brasilea Stiftung after a long time—I’m eager to see the exhibition Naiv Brazil, featuring works from the Finkelstein Collection.
The bike tour continues through Erlenpark, following the Wiese river. I’ll enjoy the natural scenery along the way until reaching Fondation Beyeler. I’m particularly excited to discover the hyperrealistic works of Vija Celmins—an artist I’m not yet familiar with. A pit stop at the Beyeler Restaurant im Park will recharge me before cycling towards Münchenstein: Steve McQueen is on the agenda. At Schaulager, the exhibition Bass is dedicated to the British video artist and filmmaker—a show I won’t miss. I look forward to experiencing a fantastic synthesis of art and architecture.
After a full day of exploring, it’s clear that Basel’s art scene has even more to offer. Luckily, there are three days to take it all in. Wishing everyone an inspiring journey through Basel’s vibrant art landscape.
