Tour Suggestion by Anna Meinecke

We asked various cultural figures which places they plan to visit during Kunsttage Basel. The fifth tour suggestion comes from Anna Meinecke, Editor-in-Chief of gallerytalk.net.
A Friday morning is ideal for museum visits. While those with regular jobs are at work, I can wander undisturbed through Kunsthalle Basel. The evening prior will have seen the opening of Bagus Pandega's exhibition—his kinetic landscape painting installation, created in collaboration with artist Kei Imazu, was a highlight of the last Bangkok Art Biennale. Expectations are high. Plus, I’ve yet to see Ser Serpas' show.
A short walk away, at Kunstmuseum Basel main building, Manor Prize 2025 winner Cassidy Toner presents her most extensive institutional solo exhibition to date. A new video work, produced in situ, turns its gaze onto the daily routines of museum guards.
Nearby, Cartoonmuseum Basel offers immersion in the work of an artist whose name surfaces whenever stereotypical female representation in film is discussed: Alison Bechdel, famed for the Bechdel-Wallace Test (commonly known as the Bechdel Test).
Time for a break? Perhaps. But one could also detour to Kunstforum Baloise Park, where works from the collection dialogue with emerging artists like Jiajia Zhang and Louisa Gagliardi.
From there, a tram ride to Münchenstein: Schaulager hosts Oscar winner Steve McQueen with an abstract installation. Deep bass frequencies pulse as LED tubes flood the space in red, orange, blue, green, magenta.
A brief walk leads to Freilager-Platz, where Pilar Quinteros' trio of columns stands—one repurposed as a grill. A detour to Coop might inspire new ideas for the day, but time is tight. By late afternoon, we cross the Rhine.
The group show 'Tremor Totale!' at Ausstellungsraum Klingental is already underway—a perfect launchpad for an evening between Kleinbasel’s Old Town and Clara-Quartier. Next: Oleksandr Holiuk at DOCK. The grand finale? Two openings: the group exhibition ‘Wear a mask and your face grows to fit it’ at For, and 'Sophia Eisenhut and Gerta Xhaferaj' at Courtney Jaeger. And nearby there’s ample opportunity to kick back with a well-earned drink and bite and mingle with other art-enthusiasts to mull over the day’s impressions.
